Since someone asked...

libcurl is an open source (free) library that allows you to do http/https/whatever calls from other languages. There's a Java binding, although it doesn't seem to be that well implemented (you might need to look at the source to see exactly what it implements). It needs curl installed first.

Alternatively, if Java can execute external commands, it's possible to call the curl executable (curl.exe) directly with the right parameters (search for "RFC1867" on that page and read the entry where it is found). It works fine.

All the above links are for win32; curl is available for shitloads of other OS's (so porting it with Java shouldn't be all that difficult)...

Sorry nels, I do appreciate the effort you put in, its just that what you are talking about sounds waaay over my head. My PHP server is the same type as you use for BurningHorizons, and isn't customzable, it is also not possible for Java to execture system commmand from an applet, (it can from general applications or servlets).

It also seems that I have almost solved the problem anyhow, I think I am going to write some Java to autogenerate HTTP requests based on including the GIF information as part of the HTTP post.
