I've been keeping track of the guys at Scaled Composites for a while now; they have some gorgeous aeroplanes (the Proteus is my fave), all built using composite materials (no aluminium plates in sight, or their drag-inducing rivets).

Well now they're gunning for the X-Prize (the challenge is to take 3 people into space using a reusable vehicle TWICE with only a two-week turnaround). All that for $10million!

All hail the White Knight!

<sigh> And to think that in the 1960s they were sending skyscraper-sized ships up...

Why why why do we have to do everything only with commercial interest? Where's the space exploration done by several countries that decide that looking at their bellybuttons is not the cleverest thing?

Yes, but it can be quite rewarding. I found a pound coin lodged in there once...
